'città: 3rd millennium/less aesthetics more ethics'
online competition selected architects
our contribution to 'la biennale di venezia 2000', 7th international architecture exhibition 'città: 3rd millennium/less aesthetics more ethics' aims to explore the ambivalence in which all forms of urban or post-metropolitan development are finding themselves at the beginning of the 21st century: architecture and planning are increasingly departing from the model of singular intervention and the production of site specific originals, yet they follow the desire for clearly labelled spatial experiences that deliver familiar images of urban spaces.
architecture has become one of many different areas, in which complex structures are used as hybrid elements that can be swapped, copied or multiplied in scale. generic masks of urbanity are renegotiating the relationships between social space and architecture, authorship and audience, simulacrum and authenticity of future urban space. life of the individual is often summarised under the popular notion of the 'urban nomad' experiencing the familiar and the uncanny as a mixture of the real and the virtual.
at this point our project for the venice biennale 2000 'less aesthetics more ethics' is questioning the ways of production and distribution of such scenarios, that may bring about new forms of 'mobile' cultural imperialism by pictorial colonisation.
